README DATA COLLECTION The data were collected between September 2017 and May 2018 in the Effort Lab (www.effortlab.website) facilities at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU). In both studies, 40 participants performed an isometric hand grip task under varying task difficulty conditions. In addition to the force exerted during the hand grip task, participants' explicit need for achievement were collected with Jackson's Personality Research Inventory (PRF). For further details, please contact Michael Richter (m.richter@ljmu.ac.uk) or read the methods description in the associated paper. METADATA The RichterEtAl_2020a_Data.zip file includes all data and scripts used to collect the data of the two studies. The MoEffHG1 folder includes data and scripts of Study 1, the MoEffHG2 folder includes Study 2 data and scripts. In each MoEffHGx folder are two subfolders Data and ProgrammeFiles. The Data subfolders include a ForceData subfolder that includes one file per participant that includes all collected force data as well as a QuestData folder that includes a single file with the demographic and PRF data of all participants. The ProgrammeFiles folders include an Inquisit subfolder that includes the Inquisit script file used to collect dempgraphic and PRR data as well as a LabView folder that includes the LabView files used to run the study. The Inquisit script files provide all information required to understand the meaning of the column headers of the data files including demographic and PRF data. The force data files include two columns. The first column includes exerted force values (in Newton), the second column codes the trial type (1 = pre-task maximum force trials, 2 = post task maximum force trials, XXX = hand grip task trial with a force standard of XXX Newton). For further information, please contact Michael Richter (m.richter@ljmu.ac.uk). STATISTICAL ANALYSIS All statistical analyses were conducted using R (version 3.5.3). Further information can be obtained from Michael Richter (m.richter@ljmu.ac.uk).
